Marcello Fantoni “Satiro innamorato” vase, Florence, Italy circa 1950s £600

This is a stunning and rare Marcello Fantoni vase, made in Florence, Italy circa 1950s.

So characteristic of his work, with a highly stylised sgraffito Cubist horned figure very similar to his iconic ‘Satiro Innamorato’ sculptures, possibly representing a satyr or the Greek God Pan. With multicoloured glossy glazes against an unusual matte black base on a classic baluster form, with a contrasting bright blue glazed interior.

The vase has a handpainted mark to the base ‘Fantoni Italy, with the ‘Duomo’ symbol based on Florence’s Cathedral’s dome.

A great addition to any collection of Fantoni, Italian or European fine art ceramics or 20th century design. Would complement any retro, vintage, mid century, modernist, 1950s, 1960s, minimalist or contemporary interior.

In excellent condition, no chips, cracks or crazing.

This is a stunning mid century plate / bowl / dish in the ‘Venezia’ decor by Walther Conradt for Gebruder Conradt, West Germany circa 1950’s, form no. ’15/2′.

A fantastic design, a shallow bowl / plate with a sloping sides and a rough ovoid shape. With a very graphic decor ‘Venezia’ that is so reminiscent of the 1950’s era. A glossy black base is hand decorated with deep incised lines and filled in with vivid glossy colours in red, yellow and turquoise, geometric, abstract and reflecting trends in Modern art and design in the 1950’s. The underneath is also glossily glazed in turquoise blue.

A wonderful rare piece by this smaller lesser known art pottery.

Perfect as a decorative display piece, as part of a grouping or to use on a desk, coffee / side table, sideboard or mantelpiece as a trinket / jewellery / pin dish, desk tidy, paperweight etc.

Would make a great addition to any collection of West German / studio / art pottery and would complement any retro, vintage, mid century, modernist, minimalist or contemporary styled interior.

In great condition, no chips or cracks, there is some wear and light scratches to the glossy glazes in the bowl, and a couple of flakes of missing glaze on the rim, reflected in the price, and still displays well.

Pair of Schlossberg Keramik ‘Kuba’ vases, West Germany circa 1958

These are a Stunning Pair of Schlossberg Keramik ‘Kuba’ vases, designed by Liesel Spornhauer, West Germany circa 1958.

A Fantastic decor, very reminiscent of the era and inspired by Cubist / Mondrian art and design. With the matte black glazed background having a hand decorated tube lined glaze in glossy white forming a random abstract grid like pattern. Some of the spaces are then filled with glossy vibrant red, yellow and blue glazes.

Wonderful forms, the larger vase has a bulbous top heavy shape with a slanted rim, the smaller vase has a tapered form and ‘fishmouth’ curved rim.

Modern art meets ceramics, in this delightful pair by this renowned smaller high quality West German pottery. A Highly collectable mid century art pottery decor.

Would make an Excellent addition to any collection of West German / European / Schlossberg ceramics. And would complement any retro, vintage, mid century, modernist, 1950’s, 1960’s, minimal or contemporary interior.

Both in Excellent Condition, no chips, cracks or crazing, the matte black paint shows some light marks as is common with this design, nothing to detract on display.

The large vase measures 21 x 11 x 11cm / 8.25 x 4.25 x 4.25in.

This is a Stunning and Rare Marcello Fantoni lamp base, made in Italy circa 1960’s.

A Fabulous mid century modernist design. The bold rectangular solid form of the ceramic lamp base in mottled shades of green and black is decorated with abstract motifs, resembling love birds, and a tribal style line motif on one side. The lamp fitting sits in a recessed well on the top, and the wire comes out of a hole on the side.

Incorporating elements of Modernism / Cubism and Abstraction, this led to his pieces being included in collections of international Modern Art museums and galleries.

A Wonderful practical lighting / display piece, and would look great in any 60’s, retro, vintage, mid century modern, modernist, minimal or contemporary interior. A Great addition to any collection of Fantoni / Raymor / Italian / European art pottery or 20th century design.

Fully working, lovely original brass fitting, wiring and bulb holder could be replaced to suit your requirements. As with all vintage electrical items, should be rewired and tested by a professional electrician.

In Excellent Condition, no marks, chips or scratches to the pottery, some age related patina to the brass, doesn’t detract from the overall look.

The base measures 16 x 15 x 6cm / 6.25 x 6 x 2.5in. Height to top of bulb holder is 26cm / 10in.

Bagni Ceramiche lamp base, made in Italy circa 1960’s

This is a Stunning Bagni Ceramiche lamp base, made in Italy circa 1960’s.

A Fantastic piece displaying the hallmarks of Alvino Bagni’s designs during the mid century era. Made of red clay to give a rough textured surface, similar to that of Bitossi pieces.
Covered with a matte dark chocolate brown glaze, and decorated with a wonderful abstract modernist geometric pattern in red and orange glossy glazes.
Lovely simple elegant bottle form, making this a perfect table lamp but also a striking piece of sculptural vintage Italian pottery.

A Wonderful practical lighting / display pieces, and would look great in any 60’s, retro, vintage, mid century modern, modernist, minimal or contemporary interior. A Great addition to any collection of Bagni / Raymor / Italian / European art pottery or 20th century design.

In need of rewiring, will be sold as is for you to add fittings of your choice and suitable for your region, a very easy job that will make this a stunning functional lamp!

In Great Condition, a little wear on the top of the lamp, but this would be hidden by a new fitting and brass plate once rewired. also the underneath of the base has chips around the holes, not visible on display, could also be covered.

Helene Ugo ceramic wall plaque, decor by Michel Barbier, Vallauris, France circa 1957

This is a Beautiful ceramic wall plaque, produced in Vallauris, France circa 1957 by the Helene Ugo Pottery, decor by Michel Barbier.

A Stunning Mid Century Modernist piece of Abstract / Picasso inspired French Art Pottery.  Hand incised and painted  pattern in a delightful bold Cubist design, with matte black and yellow glazes with a lovely smooth pumice / pebble feel and texture.

Vallauris is a pottery region in south-eastern France, Picasso lived here from 1948 – 55 and greatly contributed to the renaissance of the pottery industry, this legendary golden age when everyone was a potter, including famous ceramicists Roger Capron and Charles Voltz. His influence is clearly seen in the abstracted forms of pieces such as this plaque.

Would make a Fantastic addition to any collection of European / French / Studio / Art Pottery and is a perfect Bright statement piece to decorate any wall in a retro, vintage, mid century modern, 50’s, minimal or contemporary interior.

In Very Good Condition, one small bruise to the glaze on one corner, and some marks to the white glaze on sides and rear so do not detract from the overall look.

This is a fantastic Rare original 1964 copy of the hardback book ‘The Posters of Picasso’ by Joseph K. Foster, published by Grosset & Dunlap, New York.

A Stunning collection of Pablo Picasso’s poster artwork, many for exhibitions, the Vallauris potteries and bullfights. This artist approved volume contains lithographic reproductions of virtually all of Picasso’s important work in this field, faithfully reproduced in his original colors. The only book of his posters that he endorsed, and supplied the original artwork for.

The 48 lithographic plates are in Excellent Condition, each would make an impressive framed piece of artwork for interior design. A must have for any collector of Picasso artwork, of for any collection of 20th century Modern Art. Perfect for designers, decorators, artists, fine art sellers, framers etc.

In Great Condition, the dust sleeve is showing some marks and wear, the book cover is a little faded and worn on the edges, but the plates are in Excellent Condition, perfect for framing.

Set of 4 Dumler & Breiden Keramik vases and bowls, West Germany circa 1960’s

IMG_9729This is a Great Set of 4 Dumler & Breiden Keramik pieces, West Germany circa 1960’s.

Beautiful Mid Century style design from this renowned West German pottery of high quality wares and ‘Fat Lava’ pieces. The decor is influenced by abstract Cubist patterns and with the terracotta glaze has a natural classic look, coupled with the simple curved forms.

The two small bud vases are elegantly curved, one slender with a flared rim, the other short and bulbous. The two shallow bowls / dishes have gently sloping sides, one has a pointed end, suggesting a handle.

A Stunning little collection, the forms complement each other beautifully and the simple zig zag painted motifs in white, blue and yellow add a nice retro touch.

Would be Great as part of a collection of West German / Fat Lava / European Art Pottery, and would make a fantastic addition to any retro, vintage, 50’s, 60’s, mid century, modernist, minimal or contemporary interior.

In Excellent Condition, no marks, chips or scratches on the pieces.

Marks to the base vary on each piece and are indistinct impressed or hand inscribed, the short vase is most clearly numbered 979, all marks are shown in the base photo.
