Mid Century rattan / wicker monkey ‘speak no evil’ figure circa 1950’s

IMG_0973IMG_0977

This is a great rattan / wicker monkey figure, country of origin unknown, circa 1950’s.

A wonderful cute character, a shelf sitting figure in a ‘speak no evil’ or just playful pose! Fantastic stylised monkey shape, so expressive and great detailing, all expertly woven out of rattan with the feet and hands made of canes wrapped round with flat palms. The orange face is made of rattan coated in plastic, with black bead eyes.

Very much in the style of Kay Bojesen’s and Walter Bosse’s mid century monkey / animal figures and would make a perfect addition to any such collection, or to sit on a Danish Modern / Eames era sideboard or shelves as a quirky fun piece of home decor!

Would make a fantastic addition to any collection of mid century animal figures, Bojesen, Zoo line, Walter Bosse etc and would complement any retro, vintage, 1950’s, 1960’s, mid century, modernist, Danish Modern, minimalist or contemporary styled interior.

In excellent condition, a couple of loose canes overall, the right ear appears a little skewed but all adds to the vintage character, nothing to detract on display.

Measures 36 x 27 x 27cm / 14 x 11 x 11in.

Mid Century Italian Pottery ‘Donkey and Cart’ cactus planter circa 1960’s

This is a Fantastic pottery donkey / horse and cart planter / vase, made in Italy circa 1950’s / 60’s

A Lovely stylised mid century design, very reminiscent of Walter Bosse’s animal figures. The cartoon like donkey with a coiled mane and tail pulling a cart that can be used as a planter.

Stunning glazes similar to those used by Fratelli Fanciullacci, this piece is attributed to one of the Montelupo potteries (Bitossi region). Over a khaki green glossy base is a textured spray glaze in an off white. Highlighted by the red coiled mane and tail, and patterned motifs on the cart picked out in yellow.

Perfect for use as a planter for a cactus or small plant, as a small posy vase, or as a novelty table decoration for holding breadsticks, sweets etc.

Would make a Great addition to any collection of Italian / European pottery, and would complement any retro, vintage, 1950’s, 1960’s, mid century or kitsch styled interior.

Marked to the base ‘Made in Italy’.

In Excellent Condition, no chips, cracks or crazing, a couple of small unglazed patches from production, nothing to detract.

Measures 20 x 12 x 9cm / 8 x 4.75 x 3.5in.

Walter Bosse brass Giraffe ‘Black-Golden Line’ figure, made by Baller, Austria circa 1950’s

This is a Lovely Walter Bosse brass Giraffe figure, made by Baller, Austria circa 1950’s / 60’s.

A Classic design of the mid century modern era, the simple stylised cartoon like form of a Giraffe, designed by Walter Bosse a master craftsman and designer of animal figures, during the golden age of Vienna bronzes.

From the ‘Black-Golden Line’ series, the miniature brass figurines were given a black finish with polished areas using the ‘Patination’ technique.

Would make a Great additon to any collection of Walter Bosse / Baller / Animal / Brass figures. Perfect as a desk accessory / paperweight, or to decorate any vintage sideboard / mantelpiece or coffee table.

Vintage Condition, the black patination is very worn, could be stripped to the brass, or repainted.

Measures 9 x 9 x 4cm / 3.5 x 3.5 x 1.5in
